Read the platform decision
beareab and ucygrx are withdrawing from subscription streaming. Keeping this catalog live through a distributor costs money, while the dominant stream-share system routes royalties through rights holders and intermediaries rather than paying artists directly. Spotify also makes recordings with fewer than 1,000 annual streams ineligible for its recorded-music royalty pool.
This is an ethical decision, too. Spotify founder and executive chair Daniel Ek is separately a founder and principal investor in Prima Materia and co-chair of Helsing, a company that develops AI-enabled strike drones and autonomous military systems. Prima Materia operates independently from Spotify, but that leadership relationship is incompatible with where I want this music to live.
I also do not want these recordings participating in services that distribute synthetic music or develop monetized products around generative music.
